This  stud  was  founded  in  1988  as  the  South  Australian  Merino  Resource  flock  (SAMRF)  and  registered  in  2012  by  the  Minister  for  Agriculture,  Food  &  Fisheries,  trading  as  S.A.  Research  &  Development  Institute,  by  the  purchase  of  15  rams  &  500  ewes  from  each  of  the  following  studs:  ANAMA,  F.  No.  151,  SOUTHROSE,  F.  No.  4245,  EAST  BUNGAREE,  F.  No.  115  and  COLLINSVILLE,  F.  No.  318.  Each  year  from  1989  to  1996,  the  SAMRF  ewes  were  mated  naturally  within  stud  groups  to  12  rams  selected  at  random  from  each  stud,  the  rams  being  used  only  once.  In  1997  the  SA  Selection  Demonstration  Flocks  (SASDF)  were  initiated  and  between  1997  and  2005,  selected  SAMFR  ewes  were  divided  into  four  flocks  pertinent  to  Control,  Measured  Performance,  Classer  Assessment  and  Elite  Wool.  A  fifth  flock,  relating  to  Fibre  Meat  Plus  was  started  in  2000  with  the  further  introduction  of  ewes  from  ANAMA,  F.  No.  151,  BADERLOO,  Poll  F.  No.  1270,  GRASS  MERINOS,  F.  No.  3884,  MOORUNDIE  PARK,  Poll  F.  No.  88,  OLD  ASHROSE,  F.  No.  3762,  PANLANTINGA  Poll  F.  No.  794  and  WILLEMENUP,  Poll  F.  No.  452.  In  2006  SASDF  ewes  suited  to  easy  care,  dual  purpose  objectives  were  selected  to  form  the  basis  of  the  Turretfield  Dual  Purpose  flock.  An  average  of  570  ewes  were  mated  annually  between  2006-2012,  originally  to  home-bred  sires  but  in  later  years  to  leading  industry  stud  sires.  The  SASMSA  Management  Committee  is  of  the  view  that  the  flock  is  very  well  regarded  and  known  to  offer  high  quality  Merino  genetics  founded  on  a  long  term  industry  supported  breeding  program.  Resigned  February  2014.
