This  stud  was  founded  in  November  1972  by  LP  Gray  and  Sons  by  the  purchase  of  20  in-lamb  ewes  from  MOSGIEL  FN2180.  By  1986  the  stud  was  owned  by  LP  &  AI  Gray.  In  January  2007  the  stud,  consisting  of  10  rams,  509  ewes  &  35  ram  lambs,  was  purchased  by  RB,  FE,  JP  &  ML  Griffiths  trading  as  Canowie  Pastoral  Co,  and  will  be  amalgamated  with  the  CANOWIE  FIELDS,  FN  4913  stud.  The  MASON  DOWNS  stud  resigned  February  2007.
