This  stud  was  founded  in  October  1972,  by  JM  and  SJ  Smith  and  Sons  by  the  purchase  of  50  ewes  from  WILLEMENUP  FN2038.  In  1973,  2  rams  and  60  ewes  were  purchased  from  BUCKINORDIE  FN1285.  In  October  2003,  Graeme  Smith,  one  of  the  sons,  withdrew  from  the  partnership  and  the  ownership  of  the  stud  was  transferred  to  Kenneth  Smith  &  Family,  trading  as  KJ  &  LD  Smith  Pty  Ltd.  In  2009  the  trading  name  changed  to  Kingussie  Farming  Pty  Ltd.
