This  stud  was  founded  in  February  1967  by  the  Esperance  Land  and  Development  Co.,  by  the  purchase  of  5  rams  and  190  ewes  from  MOORNA  FNo1343.  In  April  1989,  the  stud  became  wholly  owned  by  National  Mutual  Rural  Enterprises,  formerly  a  partner  in  Esperance  Land  and  Development  Co.,  trading  as  Esperance  Rural  Properties  since  October  1991.  Rams  from  this  stud  are  bred  to  service  the  Company's  commercial  ewe  flock,  which  has  been  closed  to  outside  introductions  since  1968.  Replacement  ewes,  bred  from  within  the  flock,  have  been  professionally  classed  by  the  same  classer  since  1974.  During  1989,  the  decision  was  taken  to  expand  the  size  of  the  ram  breeding  programme,  aiming  to  produce  up  to  1200  rams  annually,  and  reducing  the  average  micron  of  the  commercial  flock.  From  a  total  of  80,318  commercial  ewes,  approximately  44,000,  ranging  in  ages  from  2  1/2  to  5  1/2  years,  were  subjectively  classed,  with  the  selected  ewes  being  fleece  weighed  and  tested  for  micron  and  yield.  3,920  ewes,  5%  of  the  total,  were  selected  to  form  a  ram  breeding  flock.  In  1990,  2,389  four  tooth  ewes,  selected  by  the  same  process  from  26,200  commercial  ewes  (1  1/2  year  olds  in  1989)  and  144  two  tooth,  again  classed  and  tested,  were  added  to  the  ram  breeding  flock.  In  1991,  a  further  903  four  tooth  and  224  two  tooth  ewes,  bred  in  the  commercial  flock,  plus  827  two  tooths  bred  from  the  original  3,920  ewes  selected  in  1989,  were  added.  All  had  been  visually  assessed  and  objectively  measured.  The  total  number  of  ewes  introduced  to  the  ram  breeding  flock  since  1989  is  8,407.  At  the  November  1991  mating,  5,962  ewes  were  joined,  2,445  being  either  CFA  or  returned  to  the  commercial  flock.  In  parallel  to  this  screening  of  the  commercial  flock,  the  Company's  registered  stud  ewes  were  visually  classed  and  tested  for  micron  and  yield.  1,171  adult  and  504  two  tooth  ewes  were  discarded  prior  to  the  1990/91  mating  season.  This  represents  a  culling  rate  of  48%.  1,804  registered  ewes  were  mated  in  November  1990.  The  number  of  registered  ewes  mated  in  November  1991  was  1,658,  the  reduction  being  due  to  further  classing  and  objective  measurement.  An  application  was  made,  in  October  1991,  to  the  Association  to  register  the  ewes  in  the  ram  breeding  flock  and  their  ewe  progeny,  as  stud  ewes.  This  application  was  considered  and  approved,  following  visual  inspection  by  Association  committee  members  in  1992.  Resigned  in  December  2002.
