This  stud  was  founded  in  April,  1979,  by  E.J.  Ashby  and  Sons  Pty.  Ltd,  following  the  division  of  the  partnership  of  W.B.  Ashby  and  Sons,  ASHROSE,  Hallett,  SA,  F.  No.  104.  E.J.  Ashby  and  Sons  Pty.  Ltd.  received  one  third  of  the  ASHROSE  stud,  comprising  of  80  sires,  1039  other  rams,  4331  ewes  of  which  3551  were  in-lamb,  and  205  lambs.  In  March  1988,  following  a  family  division,  the  stud  was  divided.  E.J.  Ashby  &  Sons  Pty.  Ltd.  continued  to  trade  as  formerly  and  retained  two  thirds  of  the  sheep  in  the  stud.  After  a  further  family  division  in  1993,  Old  Ashrose  Pty.  Ltd.  assumed  ownership  of  the  stud  which  retained  62.5%  of  the  flock.  In  April  2015,  Robert  Ashby  retired  from  the  partnership  and  Kate  and  Nick  Wadlow  assumed  full  ownership  of  the  stud  trading  as  Old  Ashrose  Proprietors.
