This  stud  was  originally  founded  in  the  early  days  of  the  settlement  of  Victoria  by  Thomas  Russell.  The  sheep  obtained  were  of  Tasmanian  blood.  In  1913,  the  stud  was  taken  over  by  Thomas  Russell's  nephew,  E.K.  Russell.  At  this  stage  rams  from  BELLE  VUE  (see  Reference  Flock)  were  being  used.  Rams  from  BARUNAH  PLAINS,  Vic,  F.  No.  1703,  were  then  introduced  and,  with  the  exception  of  1  ram  obtained  from  WINTON,  Tas.  in  1932,  no  other  blood  was  used  until  1936.  In  that  year,  the  stud  was  sold  together  with  the  property  to  G.W.H.  Butler  who  purchased  further  rams  from  WINTON,  and  also  from  VALLEYFIELD,  Epping,  Tas.  R.S.  &  W.R.  Walton  purchased  the  stud  and  property  in  June,  1954.  In  1962,  R.S.  Walton  formed  a  partnership  with  his  wife  and  two  sons,  trading  as  Wurrook  Estate.
