History
This  stud  was  founded  in  1965  by  J.M.  McEwan  by  the  purchase  of  21  ewes  from  WINTON,  Tas,  F.  No.  Tas.  1,  and  the  purchase  of  1  ram  from  SIERRA  PARK,  Vic,  F.  No.  1742.  100  ewes  were  selected  from  the  TREFUSIS  flock,  and  taken  into  the  stud.  The  TREFUSIS  flock  was  founded  in  1921  with  Saxon  blood  sheep,  only  rams  purchased  from  WINTON,  F.  No.  Tas.  9,  and  KENILWORTH,  F.  No.  Tas.  16,  being  used.  The  stud  was  later  taken  over  by  a  family  partnership,  trading  as  Trefusis  Pty  Ltd.  In  July  2007,  the  ownership  of  the  stud  was  taken  over  by  Hamish  &  Georgina  Wallace,  continuing  to  trade  as  Trefusis  Pty  Ltd.

“At Trefusis Fine Wool Merino Stud our mission is to breed profitable dual-purpose merinos that have good conformation, size and fertility, and have the ability to thrive in Tasmanian conditions and elsewhere.. We aim to breed Stud ewes that cut 7kg and upwards of 17.5 to 18 micron wool which is bright, stylish and soft handling. We have purposely selected sires and semen that knit well with our ewes with the aim to keep increasing body size, wool cut and fertility and have seen our wool cut lift from 5kg to 7kg per head, body weight from 50kg to 65kg and lambing percentage from 85% to 110%”
