This  stud  was  founded  in  1932  by  A.S.  Nivison  by  the  selection  of  150  ewes  from  4000  Mirani  flock  ewes,  progeny  of  the  Ohio  flock  owned  by  J.A.  Nivison,  Walcha,  NSW,  upon  whose  death  in  1913  the  flock  was  acquired  by  Nivison  Bros.  On  the  dissolution  of  the  partnership  in  1922,  A.S.  Nivison  took  over  his  share  of  the  Ohio  flock.  During  1926,  rams  from  RAVENSWORTH,  F.  No.  594,  and  MERRYVILLE,  F.  No.  56,  were  introduced.  In  1868,  the  Ohio  flock  was  founded  by  J.A.  Nivison  on  rams  purchased  from  W.  Gibson,  Scone,  Epping,  Tas  (see  reference  flock),  and  C.B.  Grubb,  Strathroy,  Young  Town,  Tas.  Following  the  death  of  A.S.  Nivison  in  1965,  the  stud  was  continued  by  his  executors  until  the  estate  was  wound  up  in  1966.  Mr  P.  Nivison  inherited  two-thirds  of  the  stud,  comprising  417  rams,  548  ram  lambs,  3197  ewes  and  200  ewe  lambs.  These  sheep  were  then  transferred  to  a  company  trading  as  Mirani  Pty  Ltd,  consisting  of  P.  Nivison  and  members  of  his  family.  The  balance  of  the  Mirani  flock  was  taken  over  by  the  Petali  Pastoral  Co.  (The  Gragin  stud  was  founded  in  1872  on  Collaroy  blood  (see  reference  flock),  after  which  the  progeny  of  rams  and  ewes  purchased  from  W.A.  Kermode,  Tas,  Belle  Vue  (see  reference  flock),  W.H.  Gibson,  Fairfield,  Epping,  Tas,  D.Taylor,  St  Johnstone,  Campbell  Town,  Tas,  C.B.  Grubb,  Strathroy,  Young  Town,  Tas,  Gibson  and  Sons,  Tas,  T.  Gatenby,  Pisa,  Cressy,  Tas,  Litchfield  Bros,  Cooma,  NSW,  MERRYVILLE,  F.  No.  56,  GOSTWYCK,  F.  No.  529,  and  a  ram  imported  from  Spain,  were  retained  in  the  stud).  Following  the  death  of  P.M.  Nivison  early  in  1995,  the  stud  is  now  classed  in  partnership  by  his  sons,  Hugh  (H.P.)  and  Tim  (T.S.)  Nivison,  trading  as  Mirani  Pty.  Ltd.
