This  stud  was  founded  in  1936  by  F.A.  and  H.W.  Ham  by  the  purchase  of  31  rams  and  440  ewes  from  WELL  HILL,  NSW,  F.  No.  139,  which,  on  the  dissolution  of  the  partnership  owing  to  the  death  of  W.  Halliday,  was  dispersed.  The  history  of  WELL  HILL  (formerly  ARDGOUR  PARK,  F.  No.  139)  is  as  follows:  This  stud  was  founded  with  36  ewes  (in-lamb)  out  of  the  five-year-olds  and  over,  a  gift  from  G.  Fairbairn,  at  the  time  of  the  disposal  of  Lara  Estate,  Geelong,  Vic,  for  closer  settlement  in  1907.  At  this  time  the  division  of  the  flock  of  W.  Ham,  Fairview,  Waurn  Ponds,  Vic,  took  place  and  as  well  as  his  share  of  the  ewes  from  there  H.W.  Ham  subsequently  purchased  those  of  his  brothers,  and  these  45  Fairview  ewes  were  added  to  the  36  Lara  Estate  ewes.  G.  Fairbairn  established  the  Lara  Estate  stud  during  the  years  1890-1895  with  55  Scone  ewes  from  W.  Gibson  and  Son,  Scone,  Epping,  Tas.  (see  reference  flock).  Scone  sires  were  used  with  these.  In  1898,  an  ESK  VALE  (see  reference  flock)  bred  ram  was  introduced.  In  1901,  a  BELLE  VUE  (see  reference  flock  )  bred  ram  was  purchased  privately  from  the  Hon.  James  Gibson,  followed  by  another  in  1906.  During  the  years  1900  to  1925  ewes  were  purchased  from  the  following  flocks:  Fairview,  Waurn  Ponds,  Vic;  C.F.  Gladigau,  Nhill,  Vic;  Belle  Vue  (see  reference  flock);  G.C.  Coutts,  Warracknabeal,  Vic;  Coree,  F.  No.  27;  Rogart,  Jerilderie,  N.S.W.  F.A.  Ham  purchased  the  stud  in  1951.  In  1984,  the  stud  was  transferred  to  G.  and  N.  Ham.
