This  stud  was  founded  in  October,  1986,  by  R.A.,  Y.F.  and  D.J.  Rayner,  trading  as  J.W.  and  R.A.  Rayner,  by  the  lease  of  1  ram  from  KURRETA,  Poll  F.  No.  201,  4  ewes  from  MERRYVILLE,  Poll  F.  No.  223,  and  40  ewes  transferred  from  GLANNA,  F.  No.  4003.  In  1987,  a  further  3  rams,  2  sport  rams,  10  ram  lambs,  46  ewes  and  18  poll  ewes  were  transferred  from  the  flock.  On  1st  July  1989,  the  ownership  of  the  stud  changed  from  J.W.  and  R.A.  Rayner  to  Mr.  R.A.  and  Mrs.  D.J.  Rayner,  trading  as  the  Glanna  Merino  Stud.  On  1st  July  1997,  J.C.  Rayner,  the  son  of  R.A.  &  D.J.  Rayner  was  brought  into  the  Glanna  Merino  Stud  partnership.
