This  stud  was  founded  in  September,  1959,  by  W.J.  McFarlane  by  the  purchase  of  25  ewes  from  MAWALLOK,  Vic,  F.  No.  1346,  and  1  ram  from  LEDGWORTH,  NSW,  F.  No.  585.  In  July  1985,  W.J.  McFarlane  took  his  wife,  Mrs.  A.H.  McFarlane,  into  partnership  and  commenced  trading  as  Gowan  Brae  Partnership.  In  July  1996,  Mr.  D.C.  Fenton  was  taken  into  the  partnership  but  trading  still  continues  as  Gowan  Brae  Partnership.  Resigned  September  2006.
