This  stud  was  founded  about  1915  by  D.N.  McLennan  by  the  purchase  of  ewes  from  RICH  AVON,  NALPA,  and  LILLIMUR  flocks  in  Victoria.  These  ewes  were  mated  with  rams  from  WANGANELLA,  NSW,  F.  No.  83,  and  LILLIMUR  ESTATE,  Vic,  F.  No.  244.  Subsequently  rams  and  ewes  were  purchased  from  LAMARA,  SA,  F.  No.  326,  the  last  purchase  from  that  stud  being  in  1924.  Rams  were  then  obtained  from  COLLINSVILLE,  F.  No.  318.  Following  the  death  of  D.N.  McLennan  in  1951,  the  stud  was  taken  over  by  N.M.  McLennan.  In  May  2002,  the  stud,  consisting  of  35  rams,  1200  ewes,  320  ram  lambs  &  300  ewe  lambs  was  purchased  by  Roger,  Donna  &  Tim  Polkinghorne  trading  as  Banavie  Merino  Stud.  In  February  2012  the  ownership  of  the  stud  changed  to  Roger  and  Tim  Polkinghorne,  trading  as  Banavie.
